Hair is probably one of my favorite things to draw on a person, and I had a lot of fun with Rayne's hair, as you can tell! Took me HOURS to do the sketch itself, but it was fun, and I like to have something for my hands to do while watching TV, though it irritates my parents when I do this. "You're not watching it you're drawing! You're going to miss something!!!" lol

So anyway, this is a profile shot of Rayne from Blood Singer, my Legacy of Kain fanfic. She's an OC and I'll explain the deal with the eyes so don't get too freaked out.

As Rayne's a Dhampir (half human half vampire) she has the ability to use magic specific to either race. Her main magic and most powerful is Blood Magic, and a fully fledged blood witch, when they open themselves to that magic, their pupils turn red and the whites of their eyes become black. The violet of her eye is its natural color, though it isn't her original. Due to the harshness of Nosgoth's future (Some three million years after the setting of Soul Reaver 1) those who are able to survive do so by being the strongest and most virsitile. She's been alive for over 600 years, and that's simply because she's both very good at hiding, and has been dabbling heavily in any kind of magic she can get her hands on. Due to being heavilly saturated in many kinds of magic, her eyes have turned violet when they were originally gray in her human form. As for the amber eye on the left, that's the color her eyes change to when she dons her vampire form. (They don't appear at once, naturally, they're just symbolic representations of her two halves)

Dhampirs are rare in Nosgoth's future because, while vampires are able to propagate, they can only do it with human mates. HOWEVER, while the gender is dependant upon the male's seed, it is the female's BODY which determines the race. So you can only get a vampire child from a female vampire's womb. But there's a one in a million chance that a female human can bear a dhampir with a vampire lover.

Dhampirs are able to shift from a human form to a vampire form due to the fact that they are human in the mother's womb, but change to a vampire once born and can shift between the two at will after a certain age. They are considered stronger than a normal vampire mostly because they have none of the typical vampire weaknesses and can use human magic without any adverse effects. That, however, doesn't mean they are that much stronger as VAMPIRES. Rayne's considered to be very old in this time line because most vampires don't live nearly as long as she has. But she isn't nearly as physically or psychically strong as she might be had she been born a full vampire. The blood magic she learned, however, more than makes up for that. She's a survivor, but she also has a sense of humor and still manages to rip up her favorite sweaters in spite of having had her claws for centuries, observe: Dragon260's Rayne Fanart XD
